Robert Lee Tipton's Obituary
Robert L. Tipton, 80, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2024, in a local hospital. Robert, affectionately known as “Pop”, was born November 19, 1944, in Harriman Tennessee. He was the 4th oldest of 7 children. Robert attended McReynolds High school in South Pittsburg Tennessee where he lettered in sports and graduated in 1962. Robert was drafted into the US Army August 20, 1968, and served in the Vietnam War and quickly rose to the rank of (E5) Sargent. Robert was awarded and decorated with a host of medals and accommodations too numerous to mention. He was honorably discharged when his term of service was completed on August 19, 1970.
As a veteran, Robert went to work for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as a concrete finisher and became the Union Representative for his craft. Robert rose to the position of Forman and was elevated to the highest position of his craft. He was awarded and earned the position of Superintendent of Concrete Finishers. Robert retired from TVA after 30 years of service.
Robert was a very special human being who was a people’s person with a God given gift to make one laugh without trying while at the same time saying what was on his mind while telling one the truth about themselves and you finding it difficult to become angry, that is indeed a gift.
Robert found the love of his life, Jeanette L. Battle. Robert and Jeanette were married on October 15, 1973, and remained with each other until Robert departed this life. They were married for 50 years.
Among those who preceded Robert in death include his parents, William and Barnell Tipton; brothers, William Alfred “Bill”, William Edward, and John Mack Tipton; sisters, Minnie Stinson, Clara Snodgrass, Inez Tipton, Iva Turner, Gwendolyn Tipton, and Linda Tipton. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Jeanette Tipton; son, Anthony M. Tony; daughters, Judy Toliver and Audra D. Daniels; sisters, Dorothy Jean (Herman) Morrow, of Chicago, IL, and Anna Hale of South Pittsburg, TN; 6 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Robert will lie-in-state on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday, December 9, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Greater Tucker Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Hathaway as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
