Mizora "Tina" Woods' Obituary
Mizora Gary “Tina” Woods, 83, of Chattanooga, completed her earthly work and went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in a local hospital. She was affectionately known as “Tina” “Aunt Tina,” “Sis. Tina,” or “Ms. Tina,” and was born the youngest of 11 children on October 28, 1941, to the late Thomas S. Gary and Essie Mae Culbert Gary.
She was a graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1959. Ms. Tina retired from the State of Tennessee and Allstate Insurance. She was a member of the East Third Street Church of Christ where she served for many years as the church’s Administrative Assistant in addition to willingly serving and assisting other ministries and organizations.
Ms. Tina found boundless joy in helping and encouraging everyone she knew or encountered. She had a way of making everyone feel special and as if they were her “favorite.” When family and friends traveled, they were REQUIRED to inform her of the “when, where and time” of their itinerary so that she knew everyone was safe. You could count on her to contact family and friends to ensure everyone was ok. She also enjoyed singing hymns. These were just a few of the many ways she showed her genuine love.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frank Carver “Woody” Woods, Sr.; brothers, Thomas “Brother” Gary and Alfonzo “Boolum” Gary; sisters, Mary Pearl Newby, Irene Dave, Elizabeth Bonds, Oda Mae “Pat” Woods, Thelma Gary and twin sister (natvitas); and her brother in-love, Michael B. Woods.
Those who will cherish memories of her are her daughters, Tracy (Ellis) Sam, and Kellye Woods; son, Frank (Miranda) Woods, Jr.; grandchildren, Chasity Banks, Kayla Cisnero (Caesar) , Frank “Trey” Woods, III., Nadia Woods and Nicholas Woods; great-grandchildren Joshua Myers and Kadence Myers; sisters, Elnora Kirby and Minnie Witcher; sister in-love, Brenda Woods, brother-in-love, David (Willena) Woods; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; devoted friends, Dorothy Clark, Carol Ford, Theresa Kellum, Barbara Miller, Johnnie Mosley, Cobie Ringer Patmon, Arnette Riddick, and Angelia Westmoreland. Ms. Tina will lie-in-state on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. William T. Bates, DO and staff, Dr. Mayshan Ghiassi, MD and staff and the staff at Parkridge North hospital. A note to the nieces and nephews, “You are now in charge!” To everyone, hold on to Ms. Tina’s constant reminder, “Never allow anyone steal your joy!”
