Mr. Michael Lamar Hinton's Obituary
Michael L. Hinton, 65, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025, at his residence. He was born June 23, 1960, in Lafayette, Georgia to Elbert and Beulah Hinton. Michael was one of the first black males to graduate from McCallie School. He then furthered his education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. After UT, Michael moved to Florida, where he met his life partner, Cathy Edwards. Michael served over 30 years in the restaurant industry and was kitchen manager at Bubba Gump Restaurant. Michael loved his sons, grandson, and family. One of his favorite hobbies was the card game, Spades.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Beulah Hinton; and by his life partner of 28 years, Cathy Edwards. Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Bryan Hinton of Chattanooga; godson, Zitavian Edwards of Holy Hill, FL; grandson, Bradley Hinton of Chattanooga; uncles, James Williams of Chattanooga, Bradford (Celeste) Hinton, and Melvin Hinton, both of Lafayette; aunts, Bessie Williams and Edith Rice, both of Beaumont, TX, Clemilee Hinton of Kensington, GA, Aleen Careathers of Lafayette, Jeanette Hinton of Jackson, MS, and Alice Williams of Chattanooga; a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
Michael will lie-in-state on Sunday @ 10:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. William Tramble as Eulogist. Burial on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
