La Vonia Marie Norman-Green's Obituary
La Vonia Marie Norman-Green, 60, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at her residence. She, affectionately known as “Bonny”, was born on December 26, 1962, in Tucson, Arizona to the late La Marr Norman and Marion Jones. She was the first of two children of that union. La Vonia spent her formative and adolescent years in Buffalo, New York. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Emmanuel Temple SDA Church in Buffalo, New York, under the leadership of Pastor Harold Kibble. On December 30, 1988, La Vonia married the love of her life, Pastor Kenneth L. Green. They are the blessed parents of one son and three daughters. As ‘first lady’ of numerous churches, she gracefully supported her husband’s ministry. La Vonia loved to sing and had a keen understanding of the science of music. She was instrumental in directing choirs and singing groups at various churches throughout the Northeastern Conference of Seventh Day Adventist. La Vonia had a passionate interest in furthering her education, which led her to attend Oakwood University and then enroll in and complete medical courses of study at BOCES School of Practical Nursing, Port Ewen, New York; and Brookdale Community College (Phlebotomy Technician). Former employers include Old Bridge Regional Hospital, Bayada Nurses, Raritan Bay Medical Center, Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth Nursing Rehabilitation, Plaza Nursing Rehabilitation, and Aspire Nursing & Rehabilitation of WNY. La Vonia enjoyed cooking healthy meals, sewing, traveling, interior decorating, painting, crafts, shopping, and surfing the internet to keep in touch with current events. She also had a keen sense of smell and loved acquiring and mixing perfumes, colognes and scented candles. Bowling and Tennis were her favorite recreational sports. During her high school years, she participated in track and field. La Vonia had such a passionate love for animals, that her husband endeared her with the title, ‘St. Francis of Assisi’ (lover of animals). Her pets (especially ‘Dandy’ and ‘Kolbe’) became very important members of the family. However, her greatest joy was time and opportunities spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, La Marr Norman; and daughter, Aletheia Green-Maddox. Survivors include her husband, Pastor Kenneth Green; son, Kenneth (Kenya) Green, Jr.; daughters, Di-Shon Gibson and Andrea (Eric) Green-Bennett; mother, Marion Jones;
grandchildren, Daryl Richardson, Elijah Green, Kaleb Green, Saleia Maddox, Wesley Maddox, Di'Liyah Williams, Ari Bennett, Ashlyn Bennett, and Eric Bennett, Jr.; sisters, Ta Marra Joy-Norman, Brenda Stubblefield, Danis (Scott) Gehi, Virginia Hoopengarner, and Rebekah Mingo; brothers, Ken (Gwen) Norman, and La Marr (Pamela) Norman, Jr.; uncle, Thomas Jones; a host of sisters-in-love, brothers-in-love, cousins, other relatives and friends. La Vonia will lie-in-state on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at 10 a.m. (CST) at Jasper SDA Church. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the church with her husband Pastor Kenneth Green as the eulogist. Burial on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 10 a.m. (CST) in Oakwood University Memorial Gardens in Huntsville, Alabama. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
