My favorite middle son. Too small to keep up with his two older brothers, Jesse was my shadow. Whenever I would have to cut the grass in Metropolis IL, I would stuff his ears with ear plugs and situate him in my lap on the riding mower. He cried the first time I told him that he'd grown too big.
He mimicked his older brother William when I took them to the library and always had a stack of books from his belt buckle to his chin. The next week he'd be ready for another stack. He was my eager assistant helping Mbili and Namon during our visitation weekends and I was proud to watch him navigate the responsibilities of family and fatherhood.
