Jean A. Yates' Obituary
Jean Arthur Yates, born June 27, 1940 in Chattanooga Tennessee to the late, James and V.T. Knox. She graduated from Howard High School. She was blessed to be an artist, and has painted and drawn numerous portraits. She's also written poems and songs. Jean was one of twelve siblings: Robert, twin boys, James and John (who did not survive after birth), Ida, Annie Floyd, Mariaon, Jean, Geraldine, Lester, Leon, Allon, and Reva. Of the twelve siblings, only five are still living. Jean never had a child of her own but has a host of nieces and nephews. She loved Greater Tucker and her family and friends but she loved the Lord more than anything. After she lost Her Sweetheart, Buford Yates last June, after more than sixty years of marriage, she wasn't the same. She would repeatedly say, "I want to go home." At 215pm on Thursday, March 6th 2025, God saw fit to honor her wishes. God said, Ask, and it shall be given, Seek and Ye shall find. Knock and it shall be open. (Matthew 7:7-8)
We will miss her dearly, but Praise God, we'll see her again. She's now safe in the arms of Jesus. She will lie-in-state on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon at Taylor Funeral Home. She will then lie-in-state at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Hathaway as the eulogist. Burial on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
