Janice Rivers' Obituary
Mrs. Janice Elizabeth Rivers was born on November 9, 1954, and made her grand entrance into heaven on Mother's Day May 10, 2026.
Janice was a graduate of Howard High School Class of 1972 and worked many years in the public school system, Kandy Kastle, and STS/SETHRA. She was known for her beautiful smile, sweet spirit, and was always around to give an encouraging word. Her light was always shining brightly for others to see.
Janice was a faithful member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she worked as a choir member, in the youth department, a part of the kitchen committee, and a Deaconess.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Quillian B. and Ruth Adams and three brothers, Mark, Benny Joe, and Steven Adams.
Janice leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 53 years Robert Rivers; daughter, Lisa (Chris) Boyd; sons, Rodney (Carmella) Rivers and Ryan Rivers; nine grandchildren, Markel Cotton, Jaden Mynatt, Kobe Rivers, Cameron Sanders, Janiyah Rivers, McKenzie Boyd, Ja'Lyah Griffin, NyRa Rivers, Ja'Nyce Boyd; one great-grandson, Kyngston Rivers; brother, Jimmy (Patricia) Bailey; sisters, Beverly Adams, Valarie Poindexter, and Angela Hudson; brother-in-law, Timothy Rivers; sisters-in-law, Barbara Rivers and Deborah (Lemon) Woodley; four special daughters, Shunre Jackson, Kuishon Stalmaker, Sharise Falkner, and Jasmine Newson; special friends, Marlene Williams, and Sharon Cusseaux; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her additional families, Champion Christian Learning Academy, SETHRA, and Kandy Kastle.
Janice will lie-in-state on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church with Pastor Anthony Williams as the Eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
