Pastor Emeritus Harris Toney's Obituary
Pastor Emeritus Harris Toney, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at his residence. He was employed with U.S. Pipe Foundry and retired after 40 years. He pastored several churches throughout Eastern Tennessee for 42 years. Pastor Toney served as Moderator of the Hiwassee Cumberland Presbytery and the Tennessee Synod. In 2010, he retired as the Pastor of Christian Fellowship C.P. Church after 24 years of dedicated service. He believed in a clean house, clean car and a clean heart. Pastor Toney enjoyed walking, fishing, singing, posing for pictures, and spending time with family where the focal point of conversation was always “love.” He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 65 years, Marie Toney; son, Harris Eugene Toney; great-grandson, Landan Toney; sisters, Judy Rice and Zelma Toney. Survivors include his children, Barbara Johnson, Elaine (Frank) Hill, Calvin (Judy) Toney, Teresa (Lee) Merrell, Gregory (Audrey) Toney, Donald (Pamela) Toney, Ardis Toney, Renee (Tony) Kennebrew, Danny (Donna) Toney, Cedric (Venita) Toney, and Diane (Albert) Grimes; 35 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, James (Dillie) Toney, Benford (Louise) Toney; sisters, Sallie Jefferson, Elnora Toney, Eloise Jones, Bettie-Jean (Walter) Reaves, all of Madison, Alabama, and Eva-Kate Rice of Chattanooga; brothers-in-law, Charlie Caudle of Triana, AL and James Caudle of Chicago, IL; uncle, Charlie Leamon of Cleveland, OH; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Pastor Ernest Jefferson will be the Presider, Pastor Eric K. Jones will be Assisting, and Dr. Mitchell M. Walker will be the Eulogist.
