David LaVar Richards Jr.'s Obituary
David LaVar Richards J.R., also known as Big Dave, Beebee, or dbo, passed away unexpectedly May 11th, 2026, in Cleveland, TN. David was born June 24th, 1977, in the city of Chattanooga, TN.
David was a devout believer in Christ; he enjoyed football and music. He graduated from Tyner High School in 1995. As a music lover, he played saxophone in his first year of high school, then went on to play football until he graduated. He continued his academic journey by earning an associate's degree from the University of Phoenix.
Throughout his life, he used his hobbies and involvement in various clubs to give back to his community. David was a member of the 3MC car club, the College Hill youth football league, and an active member of the NAACP in Cleveland. David had a diverse career, working with Jhall Security Services, McKee Bakery, FedEx, and other companies.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Natoya Johnson-Richards, and his loving parents, David Richards, Sr., and Delores Richards. He is survived by his son, Mr. NaCouridyn Treasure Johnson, and his wife; his daughter, NaDaviya T. Richards; and his youngest son, NaDavien Terrell Johnson. Additionally, he leaves behind several grandchildren: Ariah Jhene Johnson, Nakyas Treasure Johnson, Kaiden Rodriguez, and Karter Rodriguez. He leaves behind his best and most loyal friend, Carlos Hamilton, also known as Ham. He is also survived by his two brothers, Quincy and Desmond Richards, and a host of other family and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Priscilla Robinson, known as Big Mama; his grandfather, Henry C. Sims; and his other grandmother, Atrice Sims.
A memorial service, dedicated to David, will be held Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Companion Funeral Home, Ridge Chapel. Friends will be welcomed beginning at 1:00 PM, with the service to follow at 3:00 PM. Arrangements by Companion Funeral Home in Cleveland, TN.
