Basil V. Patterson, Sr.'s Obituary
Basil Victor Patterson, Sr., 82, of Hixson, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, in a local hospital. was born on September 17th, 1941, in Buxton Village, East Cost Demerara, Guyana, South America where he resided at 449 Bulletwood Street, McKenzie, Linden, Guyana, South America with his parents and siblings. Basil attended and graduated from the Demerara Bauxite Company (DEMBA) Trade School, McKenzie, Linden, Guyana, South America. He subsequently worked as an Architect at said DEMBA. He later migrated to the United States where he obtained his advance education (a bachelor’s degree Two (2) master’s degree in engineering). Basil was a civil structural engineer where he worked for several major companies. He loved his job and was always ready, willing, and able when called to duty. He was always up to the challenge, especially when it came to relocating for certain tasks, however large or small. He held Professional Engineers (PE) licenses and practices in several states including Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Ohio and others. He most recently worked at Florida Power & Light Co. as a Project Engineer, Nuclear Projects Engineering - Civil/Struct. He subsequently retired and returned to Hixson Chattanooga Tennessee. There he enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement with friends and family. He was a member of the Chattanooga St. Jude Catholic Church of Chattanooga TN and the SJCC Knights of Columbus. Basil loved his family and showed support always. His words of encouragement were always appreciated, and his presence was always welcome. He made it his duty to be present at family events, and in many cases was the first to show up in support, and the last to leave. His wisdom, calm personality and soft-spoken demeanor will be profoundly missed. Basil was preceded in death by his parents, Godwin and Sumintra Patterson; wife, Margie Patterson; brothers, Ivan, Thomas, and Donald Patterson; Sister Gertrude Patterson-Solomon. Survivors include his son, Basil Victor (Monica Casey) Patterson (Tennessee); grandchildren, Michael (New Jersey), Anthony (New York), and Jamie (New Jersey) Patterson; great-grandson, Jeremyah Williams (New Jersey) ; brothers, Godfrey (Joyce) Patterson (South Carolina) and Patrick (Yvette) Patterson (Georgia); sisters, Greta Lord (Guyana), Patricia Ramcharran (Canada), and Celeste Patterson-Ross (Washington, DC); special niece, Carolyn Patterson, and many other nieces; nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; other relatives; special friend, Denise Fisher and other friends. Basil will lie-in-state on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. He will lie-in-state at St. Jude Catholic Church from 3:00-5:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 5:00 p.m.
