Willie James Trueitt, Sr.'s Obituary
Deacon Willie James Trueitt, Sr., 81, of Chattanooga, departed this earthly life to eternal life on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at his home, in the presence of loved ones. He was born on January 22, 1945, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Deacon Trueitt graduated from Howard High School in 1963. He later received a certificate from the Electric Power Board Lineman Program. He was employed at the Electric Power Board as a certified Lineman for 37 years. He also retired from the Chattanooga Zoo as Head of Security after 20 years.
Deacon Trueitt was a member of the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and member of the Male Chorus. He was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. E N. Bates over 50 years ago. He was the founder, guitarist and lead singer for the Voices of Faith quartet group, who produced several recordings.
Deacon Trueitt enjoyed singing, watching movies and watching the WWE Smackdown and RAW Wrestling industry. He was an extraordinary cook and prepared all the holidays meals. He was a family man and enjoyed his family. He will be truly and dearly missed.
On December 26, 1965, he united in matrimony to Flora Ann Thompson, Trueitt of Molena, Georgia. To this union, 3 children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mozell Trueitt and Bowtie B. Gaither; and sister, Tommie Elizabeth Parham.
He leaves to honor and cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, Flora Ann Trueitt; son, Willie James Trueitt, Jr.; daughters, Carmen Trueitt Thompson of Jonesbor, GA and Crystal Trueitt (Pastor, Dr. Eric D. Sims, Sr.) Sims; grandchildren, Willie James Trueitt, III, Jeremy Martin Trueitt, David James Trueitt, Terry Scott Trueitt, Christopher Micheal Silvels, Christen Micheala Trueitt, and Taylor Ann Bryant; uncle, John Trueitt of Cleveland, OH; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Deacon Trueitt will lie-in-state on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon in the Chapel with Bishop William Simpson, III officiating and Pastor Dr. Eric D. Sims, Sr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
