Willie Mae Evans' Obituary
Willie Mae Evans, 94, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at her residence. She was born March 7, 1931 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools and was a 1950 graduate of Howard High School.
She was employed by Erlanger Hospital and Hamilton County Nursing Home and retired after many years of service. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the Golden Harvest Ministry and Nurses’ Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emory Jackson and Lillie Chaney; her husband, Jessie Evans; her daughter, CaSandra Sue Evans-Cameron; her two brothers, Tommy Jackson and Trammell Gilbert; grandson, Kima Evans; and great-grandson, Kendrick Evans.
Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda (Alton) Carson and Anita Evans, both of Chattanooga; three sons, Lester Evans of Birmingham, AL, Thomas Evans, and Torran (Darlene) Evans, both of Chattanooga; 14 grandchildren, Juanyale (Gaylon) Bennett, Tammy Carson, Dawns (Jerroll) White, Tomeika Evans, Marcus Evans, Tareva Evans, Antwan Evans, Cory Evans, Michael Evans, Thomas De-Juan (Pamela) Evans, Elgin (Stacie) Evans, Lakeyta Evans, Natasha Evans, and Tory Lewis; 34 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Willie Mae was affectionately known by “Can you touch your toes?” A special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and Palliative Care Services of Chattanooga.
Willie Mae will lie-in-state on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the Chapel with Minister William Ryan as the Eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
