Waymon Oliver's Obituary
Waymon “WO” Oliver, 82, of Chattanooga, recently succumbed to his earthly life on Friday, May 26, 2023, in the Hospice Care at The Waters of Winchester Nursing Facility. He was our beloved Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend. Waymon was born March 24, 1941 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was the youngest of two sons born to Lewis Bibbs and Lois Oliver. Waymon was a proud graduate of the Howard High “Hustling Tigers” Class of 1961'. He was of the Baptist Faith and fellowship member of the St. Elmo Baptist Church until his health began to decline. He was an avid Softball Player for the semi-minor league team “The Pluck Tigers”. Their games would light up the ball fields from Emma Wheeler Homes to Spencer J. McCallie Homes to Maurice Kirby-Poss Homes on any given weekend; delighting the entire community of fans, young and old alike. Waymon loved working with his hands and was not afraid of hard work. He led this example by starting his own business: W. O. Concrete Finishing, whereby he landed sub-contracts like the Erlanger Parking Garage and numerous other Commercial projects, providing jobs for his family, friends and community. Waymon was not all work and no play, his fun-loving nature made him a passionate advocate for “having fun”; whether traveling to Las Vegas, going to live Sports games, and hosting his family and friends with a “get-together” on a regular basis at local venues or at his home; he always brought up the fun and laughter. Waymon was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; a loving wife of 45 years, Daisy; a daughter, Darlene; a son, Ivan Lynn; his brothers Richard, William, and Joe Lewis; his sister, Lena Pearl; and brother-in-law, Jr. Baker; a dear aunt/Mother Fannie; and a devoted best friend, Polk Taylor. Survivors include his adult “Children”, Cornel Freeman, Janice (Chris) Easley, Felicia (Bobby) Rivers, Juanita Glaze, Tracy Oliver; Kim Oliver, Kenya (Ladarius) Hollinsworth, Chanda (Jerome) Bonner, Sharon Turner, Amanda Johnson, and Stacie Bush; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a devoted brother, Ronald Oliver; a lifelong friend, Thelma Oliver; devoted nieces, Bonita and Cheryl; and a host of other dear nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends. Waymon “WO” Oliver touched the lives of many . . . he will be missed and always remembered within our hearts; and we know as time passes, these tears of sorrow will turn to comforting smiles filled with beautiful memories! Waymon will lie-in-state on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
