Valerie Cooper Blackmon's Obituary
Valerie Cooper Blackmon, 58, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, in a local hospital. She was a 1983 graduate of Brainerd High School. Valerie attended McKenzie College and ECPI. She was a member of St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church where she was on the Nurses Guild. Valerie taught crochet at Eastgate Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her father, James A Cooper; niece, Dr. Tamika Luceill Cooper-Mtonga; and brother-in-law, James Stubbs. Survivors include her daughter, Raven Elyse Cooper; husband, Samuel Lee Blackmon; stepchildren; step-grandchildren; mother, Jacqueline Cooper; sisters, Andriene Cooper Stubbs and Sharon Cooper Taylor; brother, Greglin (GeVonna) Cooper; mother-in-law, Martha Blackmon; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces, LeTatia Taylor, April Taylor, Jalah Taylor; nephews, Dion Taylor, DeJuan Cooper, DeVonte Cooper, Chris Cooper, Jeramie Taylor, Izaiah Anderson and Chris Strickland, all of Chattanooga; aunts, Brenda (Rudolph) Houston, Vanerette Hayes, both of Chattanooga, and Bettie Gross of Atlanta, GA; uncles, John (Cheryl) DeBardeleben, Dillard DeBardeleben, Vodie DeBardeleben; a host of cousins; other relatives and friends. Valerie will lie-in-state on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 9 a.m. at St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church, 3701 West Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37410. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the church with Pastor Billy Church as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery located at 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
