Deacon Tommy Jones, Jr.'s Obituary
Deacon Tommy Jones, Jr., 87, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at his residence. He was a 1954 graduate of Howard High School. Tommy was a member of Greater Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church for more than 30 years. He was ordained and served as a Deacon under the late Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Carter. Later in life, he joined Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon. He retired from U.S. Pipe and Foundry after 34 years of service. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Vennie Mae Jones, Sr.; first wife, Diane Brady Jones; second wife, Lula Barnette Jones; son, Aaron Jones; granddaughter, Shanika Patterson; sisters, Mattie Mae Pickens, Bertha Jones, and Oliva Bell; brothers, Alan Jones and Joe Louis Jones. Survivors include his son, Ronald (Marilyn) Jones of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Mathenell (Fallen) Woods, Patrice Jones, Terrance Jones, Corey Jones, Raven (Ty) Torey, and Jenika Jones (Mark Lewis); brothers, Jessie Jones and Rufus (Pearl) Jones, both of Chattanooga; sisters, Bobbie Matthew of Killeen, TX and Hazel McCallie Benford of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Deacon Jones will lie-in-state on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 12 noon in the chapel with Dr. Steven Caudle as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
