Thomas Earl Stewart's Obituary
Thomas E. Stewart, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, in a local hospital. He was born in Chattanooga Tennessee on October 4, 1935. Thomas was a graduate of McRenald High School in South Pittsburg, Tennessee where he starred in football and baseball. He also holds an associate degree from Chattanooga State. Thomas was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant. He had 20 years of honorable service to the United States. After his Air Force career, he worked another 20 years as an Engineer at Southern Railroad in Chattanooga. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, James Stewart and Mary Beacon-Stewart; his brothers, John Stewart and James Stewart, Jr.; and his sisters, Melba Stewart and Bertha Irene Stewart. Thomas is survived by his loving and caring family, sons, James R. Stewart of Los Angeles, CA and Tyler Stewart of Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Gail Lyons; grandchildren, Tyuan Lyons of Chattanooga, James (Kwan) Muirhead-Stewart of London England, Tandya (Jonny) Franchini, Tene Stewart, and Stone Stewart, both from Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren, Shenay Muirhead-Stewart, Nazario Muirhead-Stewart, Hendrix Franchini, and Harlow Franchini; his brother, Matthew (Pat) Stewart of Chattanooga; a host of loving nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. Thomas will be deeply missed but always remembered by his family and friends. He will lie-in-state on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Alonzo Noble as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
