Thomas Eugene Jones, Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas “Tommy” Eugene Jones was born on July 6, 1955, to the late James Thomas and Theda Marie Jones in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Affectionately called Tommy by family and friends, he was the youngest of five children – the late George Edward Jones, Merrian Robertson-Morton, the late James Bernard Jones, and the late Carolyn E. Johnson. At a young age he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Orchard Knob Baptist Church. He later attended First Baptist Church with his family. Thomas attended Riverside High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. After being discharged from the U.S. Air Force due to health issues, he worked at Wheland Foundry as a Foreman and volunteered as a firefighter. For twenty-three years he has loved and supported by his life partner, Mozell Roseberry, whom he cherished wholeheartedly. This loving partnership brought a beautiful extended family: daughters, Makisa Roseberry, Reana and Destiny Wynn, sons Williathrain, Stewart and Kentrell, and grandchildren, Trinity, Jaterrius and Jaleah Roseberry, Kai’lani and Kai’yana, all of Chattanooga. Tommy married Janice Burrows. Although the union ended in divorce, they were blessed with one son, Thomas Eugene Jones. His love and care for children were shown with the adoption of Jaye (birth son of Janice) as well as loving, caring for and serving as the confident to his nieces and nephews. Tommy was a true blessing to his family and was loved dearly. He was considered the “jokester” to his nieces and nephews. During his mother’s long-term battle with cancer, he faithfully served as her advocate and caregiver while providing updates to family and friends. Tommy was preceded in death by his father, James T. Jones, Jr.; mother, Theda Jones; brothers, George and Bernard Jones; sister, Carolyn Johnson; uncle, Reginald Sutton; and aunt, Thersa Sutton. Tommy passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in a local hospital. He leaves to cherish his memories his life partner, Mozelle Roseberry; sons, Thomas E. Jones and Jaye Jones; sister, Merrian (David) Robertson-Morton; sister-in-law, Gwen Jones; aunt, Beverly Lynch of New York; a very special friend, Anthony “Frog” Morgan; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He will truly be missed. He will lie-in-state on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
