Thomas Lee Finley Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas Lee Finley, Sr. 86, of Chattanooga, quietly departed this life on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. He was born to the late John and Gladys Finley on July 20, 1938. He worked part-time as a Nurses Aide at Erlanger Hospital his senior year of high school. He graduated from Howard High School class of 1956 and upon graduation he enrolled in Cook County Nursing School in Chicago, IL. He married Barbara Simmons prior to graduation, and they had six children. Upon completion of Nursing School, Thomas enrolled in the U.S. Navy in 1959 and served as Military Medical Crew Captain and received the Expeditionary National Defense Service Medial before requesting an honorable discharge in June 1963. Thomas attended UTC and received a Bachelor of Science, BS degree in Computer Science. Upon graduation, he owned and operated his own business, the CPSC, Computer Programing Service Center on Broad Street. He was contracted by the Chattanooga Adult High School to teach a beginner’s computer programing course. At an early age Thomas gave his life to Christ and was baptized by Reverend AM Sylar at the Greater Friendship Primitive Church located then on Grove Street on the Westside in Chattanooga, TN. He enjoyed listening to Christian music and watching Christian services on TBN and the 700 Club. Thomas was an avid competitor. He loved playing his trumpet, riding his bike, playing tennis, and he enjoyed playing golf. He had a huge collection of old movies on DVDs and CDs and spent his days on Hospice being entertained with his favorite movies. Thomas loved his children: Pamela (Lewis) Burrows of St. Louis, MO, Thomas (mona) Finley, Jr. of Sugarland, TX, Lenard Finley, Sonya (Mark) Johnson both of San Diego, CA, Eric (Yosmania) Finley of North Cross, GA, and Mary (Michael) Cranford of Chattanooga. He was proceeded in death by his grandmother, Josephine Hood; parents, John (Gladys) Finley; brother, Linnell Finley. He leaves to mourn his death is his wife, Barbara Simmons Finley; children; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a devoted sister; brother-in-law, Charlaine (John) Price. Thomas will lie-in-state on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 12:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside service will be on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
