Shirley Ann Hill's Obituary
Shirley Ann Hill, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025, at her residence. She was born on February 22, 1944, to the late James and Mamie Brown, Sr. Shirley attended the following schools, Joseph E. Smith Elementary, East 5th Street and Howard High. She received Christ in her life at an early age. Her home church was Olivet Baptist Church.
Shirley had a very happy marriage for over 30 years and loved being a mother and grandmother. Family meant everything to Shirley and in her early days was a singer and had her own group. She had a passion for cooking and started work at an early age. She worked for Home Plate Cafeteria, TVA Deli, Samir’s Deli and retired in 2006 from The Salvation Army located on McCallie Avenue.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Hill; son, Gary Brown; and grandson, Marcus D. Fortson, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Gregory Brown; daughters, LaBridget (Moore) and Danielle Brown, Terry and Kimberly Hill, Sharon Fortson, and Sonia Holloway; grandchildren, Fredrick, Jr., Lawon, Sr., and Marcus Fortson, Sr., Derrick, Alexis, and Jonathan Brown, Rickie Mitchell, LaKeesha Holloway, Keyaisa Hill, Takiyah Kirk, Amier Hill, Nasir Johnson, Justin and Amanda Brown, Ki'Unna Addison, and Kimya Brown; great-grandchildren, Tamar, Lariyah, TaKilya, Marquez, MaKarhi, and Lawon Fortson, Jr., Cameron Evans, Cawon Holloway, Kiori Craddock, and Kyson Gordon; a host of other great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, James Brown, Jr., Charles Brown, Orlandus Brown, Robert Brown, Eugene Brown, and Clifford Brown; sisters, Doris Brown and Jackie Brown; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Shirley will lie-in-state on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Chapel with Minister Gregory Brown as the Eulogist.
