Shirley Lee Adair's Obituary
Shirley Adair, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at her residence. She was born May 11, 1935, in Kelso, Tennessee to parents, Sammie Gregory and Hallie B. Carter. She attended Bridgeforth High School in Pulaski, Tennessee. Shirley was employed with Central Soya for over 20 years. She became a caregiver for the elderly, and enjoyed babysitting. Shirley was always in good spirits and was loved by everyone. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Avondale Church of Christ. She loved the Lord, music, and dancing. Shirley could still do a backbend at 80 years old! She was preceded in death by her parents, Sammie Gregory and Hallie B. Carter; husband, Charles Adair; brothers, Sammie Gregory, Joe Ed (Lucille) Gregory; sisters, Hilda (Luke) Conley, and Melva (Leroy) Wells. Survivors her sisters, Terry Waggoner and Jeraldean Harper, both of Fayetteville, TN; brothers, Jerry (Grace Sue) Gregory, of Fayetteville, TN, Carter (Marilyn) Gregory, of Clarkston, GA, and Jerome (Cynthia) Gregory of Stone Mountain GA; a very devoted cousin, Sheila Greene; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; special friend, Maxie Benton and other friends. Shirley will lie-in-state on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Avondale Church of Christ. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the church with Brother Eric Garner as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
