Sarah Smith's Obituary
Sarah E. Smith was born September 14, 1933 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was educated in the Hamilton County School system. Sarah loved playing the piano. She played for many churches in the local Chattanooga area including her church home, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Among those who preceded Sarah in death were her husband of 59 years, Cody Smith; sons, Larry Smith; Ricky (Joyce) Gordon of Chattanooga, TN, father, Grover Hogg; mother, Exie Godfrey; brother, Archie Hall; sisters, Gloria Pierce, Jessie Malcolm, and Linda Goins. On Thursday, October 16, 2025, in the Hospice Care Center of Chattanooga, Sarah departed this earthly life at the age of 92. Cherishing her memories include her special daughter, Alfreda Smith of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Garry (Sandra) Smith of West Palm Beach, FL, Kimberly (Bernard) Durham of Charlotte, NC, and Barbara (Jacoby) Smith of West Palm Beach, FL; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara King, Jackie Jones all of Chattanooga, TN; very special friends, Oscar (Phyllis) Parks, Pastor Tony (Susan) Walliser and Ann Jackson; a host of other relatives, and friends. She will lie-in-state on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 12 noon in the chapel with Pastor Wayne Johnson as the eulogist. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
