Sara Cotton's Obituary
Sara Cotton, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at her residence, surrounded by her devoted daughter and family. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She was a retired School Principal at Orchard Knob Elementary School. She attended Tennessee State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Sara later received her master’s degree from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She worked in the Chattanooga Public School system for most of her career, serving as a Social Worker, Counselor, then Principal. Sara was a lifelong member of Hawkinsville Missionary Baptist Church, where she held numerous positions. She was also a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated and several other civic and social organizations. Survivors include her only child, Bonita Lynn Cotton; grandchildren, Aurelia Una Hereford and Jeremy Cotton; seven great-grandchildren, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Rosetta Strickland of Chattanooga and Pressie Wasson of Stockton, CA; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.. Pastor Bobby L. Hampton will serve as the eulogist.
