Rudolph Chambliss' Obituary
Rudolph Chambliss, 72, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022, in an Augusta, Georgia hospital. He was born October 14, 1949, to Clinton Chambliss and Love Lockett in Roberta, Georgia. At an early age Rudolph and family relocated to Chattanooga Tennessee. He lived his early teens in the Riverside Drive area in East Chattanooga, attending Roland Hays Middle School then later graduating in 1969 from Central High School. While at Central High, Mr. Chambliss was the captain of the basketball team for three years. After graduating, he entered the United States Navy from December 16, 1969-December 15, 1975. He held the position as an Aviation Mechanic for 4 years. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruby Justice, on May 17, 1972. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 17, 2022. From this union two children were born, a son, Carlos Chambliss and a daughter, Stephanie Chambliss. Rudolph was employed by Dupont for 4 years then transferred to Aiken, South Carolina where he was a fire fighter for Savannah Riverside/Westinghouse for 28 years rising through the rank of Lt., Capitan, and Fire Instructor for the Fire Department. In addition to loving his family, he loved gardening, landscaping, and genealogy. He passed his love of basketball to his children and grandchildren. Rudolph will forever be remembered as a loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Rudolph was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clinton Chambliss and Samuel Chambliss. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruby Chambliss; son, Carlos Chambliss; daughter, Stephanie Chambliss; a host of grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence Chambliss and Carl Chambliss; sisters, Shirley Townsend and Charlene Chambliss; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. We will forever love and cherish your memory. Minister Randolph Higginbotham will be the eulogist.
