Ronald J. Walker's Obituary
Ronald Joseph Walker, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in a local healthcare facility. Ronald, affectionately known as “Slick,” was born on March 26, 1949. He was the fifth child born to a family of nine children. He was loved by those who knew him because of his friendly, easy-going manner. He was the cherished father of four daughters.
Ronnie was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church and attended regularly during his youth. He also attended Chickamauga Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1967.
Ronnie joined the United States Air Force after graduating from high school and was deployed to Vietnam. After four years of service, he returned to Chattanooga and worked for the DuPont Company. Later, he was employed at the Chattanooga Municipal Airport.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his loving mother, Nellie Mae Walker-McReynolds; father, Herschel Walker, Sr.; stepfather, Willie McReynolds; daughter Patrice LaRhonda Walker; brother, Shareef Shamsud-Din Al-Jizah (Herschel Walker, Jr.); sisters: Jacqueline McDuffie, Nettie Humphrey, and Ruth Amaker; nieces, Maria Byers and Yolanda (Yo-Yo) McDuffie.
Ronnie is survived by his former wife, Patrica Walker; daughters, Latosha Walker, Lakisha Humphrey, Rona Boykin, and Brooke (Corey) Babbs; brother, Malcolm J. Walker; sisters, Diane (Joe) Taylor, Bettie Greatheart, and Dr. Juanita (Michael) Hoskins; grandchildren, Marissa Walker, Keyonna Slater, T’Shayla Timmons, McKenna Boykin, Mikaili Boykin, Aaliyah Johnson, Michael Boykin II, Alexander Babbs, and Jameson Babbs; great-grandchildren, Nilah Thompson, Noah Thompson, Khloee Jackson, and Kinsey Pritchett; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Ronnie will lie-in-state on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, August 29, 2025, at 12 noon in the Chapel with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
