Robert Zackery, Sr.'s Obituary
Robert Lee Zackery, Sr., 95, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, in Palm Harbor, Florida. He was born on March 10, 1928, in Lineville, Alabama. Robert Lee Zackery, Sr. graced this world with his presence. A dedicated member of Greater Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, Robert Lee Zackery, Sr. exemplified his faith through his service. He lent his voice to the Men's Choir and played an integral role on the Trustee board. An embodiment of hard work, he held 2-3 jobs throughout his life, ultimately retiring from Sears. Guided by an unwavering sense of leadership and responsibility, Robert Lee Zackery, Sr. was not only a provider for his family, but a steadfast protector. From a young age, he took care of his sisters, nieces, and nephews. As life unfolded, he extended his loving care to his own mother and mother-in-law. In the later chapters of his life, he discovered joy in extensive travels, exploring the enchanting Hawaiian Islands, the bustling streets of Los Angeles, California, and the serene landscapes of Hampton, Virginia. Since 2016, he resided in Hawaii, Oklahoma, Texas, and Florida. During this time, he embraced new passions, taking up golf and enjoying rounds on famous courses, engaging in nightly games of checkers, and immersing himself in the ocean's embrace. His fondness for the beach and the warmth of the sun remained a constant source of joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Zackery and Beadie McLemore; his first wife, Audrey Zackery; their son, Robert Lee Zackery, Jr.; second wife, Elizabeth Zackery; his brother, Thomas Zackery; sisters, Minnie Bell Cunningham, Rena Banks, and Wilma Burkes. Robert leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Survivors include his child, Treavanna Clay; his cherished grandchildren, Wanda Bridges and Robert (Jacqueline) Zackery III, Jeremiah Zackery (Raven), Joshua Zackery, and Jasmine Zackery; great-grandchildren, Danicia, Nathan, Hayden, Da’Yanna, Phil, Ashad, Ashay, Jayden, and Carter; great-great-grandchild, Naomi; his sister, Mary Ann Davenport; special niece and nephews, Elnora Cunningham, Thomas Zackery, Jr., and Theron Zackery; special family, Robin Wade, Renee Williams, Matilda Bennett, Delilah Freeman, and Camden Lawrence; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. As we bid farewell to Bro. Robert L. Zackery, Sr., let us remember him not with tears of sorrow but with gratitude for the radiant life he shared and the love he imparted to all who knew him. May his memory forever inspire us to live with the same kindness, devotion, and zest for life that he so beautifully exemplified. Robert will lie-in-state on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 12 noon at Greater Friendship Primitive Baptist Church. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
