Robert Lee Shaw, Jr.'s Obituary
Robert Lee Shaw, Jr., 76, of Chattanooga, left this world on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 6, 1949, in Tuscumbia, Alabama, to Robert Lee Shaw, Sr. and Elnora Montgomery Shaw. He attended Kirkman High School. Robert dedicated his life to serving others through his work with the Chattanooga Police Department and Hamilton County Schools. He later retired as an engineer with the Tennessee Valley Authority after 32 years of faithful service.
A devoted man of faith, Robert was an active member of New Enon Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon, usher, male choir member, and kitchen committee volunteer. His love for God guided every aspect of his life.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Shaw, Sr. and Elnora Montgomery Shaw; his brothers, Willie Harris, James Allen Harris, and Ruben Gene Trotter; his sister, Emma Ramsey; sister-in-law, Gail Shaw; and a host of nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Robert was a loving husband, father, and patriarch whose life centered around family. He instilled in his children the importance of seeking God first and taught them to love and support one another in times of need. His joy was found in spending time with family and friends, playing dominoes and cards, and enjoying fishing and hunting with his brothers.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 29 years, Mary Shaw; sons, Robert Shaw, III and Gladadous Shaw; daughters, Katrina Shaw, Jocelyn Rucker, and Jala Harris, all of Chattanooga, TN; 14 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Reverend Harold F. Shaw of Tuscumbia, AL, and Thomas (Carolyn) Montgomery of Dayton, OH; sisters, Gloria (Fred) Bates, Ada (Wyatt) Graham, Claudia (Earnest) Smith, Sr., Catherine Cheatham, all of Tuscumbia, AL, and Linda Ross of Detroit, MI; aunt, Martha Shaw (Arthur)-Hullett of Huntsville, AL; uncle, James Shaw of Madison, ALa; and a faithful niece, Cindy (Clarke) Smith Jackson, Jr. of Tuscumbia, AL. He also leaves behind a bonus son, Willie Walker; special friends, Jimmy Shropshire, Juanita Turner, and Robin Wade, all of Chattanooga, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Robert will lie-in-state on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the Chapel with Pastor Andrew Bullard, III as the Eulogist. Entombment in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
