Bishop Robert Leroy Sharp, Jr.'s Obituary
Bishop Robert Leroy Sharp, Jr., 75, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022. Robert was affectionately called “June”, and was born November 30, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert Leroy and Irene Sharp. He was the eldest son of his siblings. Robert accepted God at an early age and was baptized at New Northside Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO, under Bishop Willie James Ellis, Jr. He was a faithful servant and grew daily in the word of God. He received his seminary degree and was ordained a pastor by the Church of the Living God in St. Louis, MO under Reverend Basil Stone. He moved to Chattanooga, TN in 1984, where he began his leadership as pastor at St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church. Following his leadership at St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church in 1991 he became the founder of Faith in Christ Church. His most revered accomplishments were also being a founding member and president of the Mission Consortium of Churches, under the leadership of Dr, R.E. Cooper of Nassau, Bahamas. Robert was ordained Bishop in 2000 and served as the Eastern Regional Bishop of Mission Consortium of Churches International. As a young man, selling insurance, Robert received the award for the “Million Dollar Club” by Mutual of Omaha. He later started his own company called “Bob Sharp Insurance Agency”. In addition to him being a great preacher he was also the director and host for the “Gospel Train” at WNOO radio station in Chattanooga, TN. He was heard by thousands of faithful listeners in both Tennessee and Georgia.
On May 20, 1962, he united in holy matrimony to his grade/high school sweetheart Jacqueline Johnson. Their love was strong and as a result they renewed their vows for a second time on November 12, 2017. His greatest joys in life were preaching and telling a good story to make his family and friends laugh.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leroy Sharp; mother, Irene Sharp-Stringer; sisters, Queen Ester Sharp, Deloris Sharp, Lavern Sharp, and Mary Briscoe; and great-granddaughter Adelyn Rose Mitchell. Survivors include his devoted wife, Jacqueline Sharp; children, Sidney Leroy (Oneida) Sharp, Robert Leroy (Dorletha) Sharp III, and Michele Sharp (Tommie) Clark ; grandchildren, Nicole (Kevin) Bentley, Derrick Smith, Sidney D. (Chatera) Sharp, Jeffree (Tiffany) Cutts , Robert L. Sharp IV, Wesley J. Sharp, Nathaniel Mitchell, Brittany Mitchell, and Raze “Chris” (Jasmine) Avery; great-grandchildren, Martinea, Nyla, Breasia, Briana, Christiana, Sariyah, Jace, Journee, Rylen, Genesis, Jacelyn, and Eden; great-great-grandchild Amir; brothers, David Bernard (Gladys) Sharp, Leroy Robert Sharp, Karl Edward (Cynthia) Sharp, Willie (Peggie) Stringer, and Walter James Stringer; sisters, Alene (Gilbert) Kidd, Janet Banks, and Irene Vanilla (Leroy) Garrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Bishop Mark Sandilands will serve as the eulogist. Burial will take place later in St. Louis, Missouri.
