Robert Vernon McElvain Sr.'s Obituary
Robert Vernon McElvain, Sr., 62, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 in a local hospital. He was a 1976 graduate of Brainerd High School. He was a member of New United Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Budget Committee. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lillian Tatum McElvain; grandparents, Sarah Ann and Henry McElvain, Geneva and Clarence Tatum; aunt, Nellie Tatum Jordan; mother-in-law, Virginia Wells “Sister” Newsom; a host of uncles; aunts; and cousins. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Newsom McElvain; sons, Robert “Cochise” McElvain, Jr. of Orlando, FL and Austin J. McElvain of Chattanooga; daughters, Whitney P. McElvain and Tera (Ferris) Witcher, both of Chattanooga; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, David Rodney (Barbara J.) McElvain, Jr. and Brian K. (Ronnette H.) McElvain, both of Chattanooga; sisters, Michelle M. (Domont, III) Bills of Romeoville, IL, Delphia M. (Eric) Lewis of Roanoke, VA, and Nicole M. Martin of Dallas, TX; uncle, Matthew Jordan of Huntington Long Island, NY; aunt, Ann McElvain English of Cleveland, OH; father-in-law, William D. “Billy” Newsom, Jr. of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Edward) Newsom-Chapman of Orlando, FL and Iris Al-Uqdah of Vallejo, CA; a host of other relatives and friends. Pastor Jeffrey Wilson will serve as the eulogist.
