Robert Griffin, Jr.'s Obituary
Robert “Grip” Griffin, Jr., 68, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, in a local hospital. Robert was born July 2, 1954, in Jackson, Georgia. He was an outstanding basketball and football player at Jackson High School in Jackson, Georgia where he graduated in 1972. In 1973, he played varsity football for UTC Mocs and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services. “Grip” was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Robert was formerly employed by Tennessee State Work Release Center, North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company and TVA. He retired in 2016 from Cargill Flour Mill. Robert was a former Deacon and Usher at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Griffin, Sr.; brothers, Rev. Kenny Griffin and Eddie James Griffin. “Grip” leaves to cherish his memories his two daughters, Robyn JaNeice Griffin and Roshundra Janea Griffin Strickland, both of Chattanooga; mother of daughters, Gloria Patton Griffin; granddaughters, Atoria Snow, Ariah Daniel, and Makayla Griffin all of Chattanooga; brother, David Griffin of Decatur, GA; sister, Betty (Horace) Mitchell of Union, NJ; special friends, Jennifer Arnold, Freds Sails, and fraternity brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Pastor Samuel R. Jackson will serve as the eulogist.
