Robert Lee Elder's Obituary
Robert Lee Elder, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away, Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his residence. He was a graduate of Howard High School. He retired from Vulcan Materials after many years of service. Robert was a member of New Enon Baptist Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Elder; son, Darron Elder; grandson, Tremaine Hill; sister, Shirley Ann Williams; and brother, Norman Elder.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Joyce Elder; son, Jeffrey Elder of Chattanooga; daughter, Phyllis (Larry) Jamar of Marietta, GA; mother of the children, Evelyn Elder; stepsons, Timothy Boyd of Chattanooga and Robert Phillips of LaVergne, TN; stepdaughters, Connie Phillips of Murfreesboro, TN and Lasonia Phillips of Chattanooga; 18 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; brother, Lincoln Elder of Chattanooga; sisters, Frances (Sidney) Eberhardt of Chattanooga, Annie Elizabeth Weams of Columbus, OH; Mildred McBee of Tampa, FL, and Norma Jean Guines of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Joann Wilkerson and Patricia Hill, both of Chattanooga; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Robert will lie-in-state on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel with Pastor Andrew Bullard as the Eulogist. Burial on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Highland Memorial Gardens.
