Paul Bates Jr.'s Obituary
Paul Bates, Jr., 79, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his residence. He was a 1964 graduate of Howard High School and furthered his education by attending Chattanooga State for 2 years. Paul served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge at the end of his service time. He was formerly employed by W.R. Grace as a chemist. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Paul Bates, Sr.; and mother, Ida Mai Bates. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mavoureen Bates; son, Rodney (Kassandra) Terrell of Chattanooga; daughters, Angela L. Bates of Fayetteville, NC, Corsandra Terrell, and Kimberly Terrell, both of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Shana M. Bates, Stephanie (Richard) Hart, Keisha Terrell, Christine Terrell, and Michael Terrell, all of Chattanooga; eight great-grandchildren, Jalen S. Fields, Jaylen Jordan, Kaunyae Burgans, Haley Cox, Kaitlyn Terrell, Rihanna Hurt, Makaila Hurt, and Olivia Hurt, all of Chattanooga; other relatives and friends. Paul will lie-in-state on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside military service will follow at 2 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
