Omelia Flemister's Obituary
Omelia Flemister, 87, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Charleston, WV, graduated high school in Detroit, Michigan in 1952. The family moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1963. Omelia worked in the Hamilton County School system as a Teacher’s Aide, first, at Calvin Donaldson Elementary, then Clifton Hills Elementary. She retired after working twenty-six years. She was a longtime member of River of Life Church. Omelia Flemister is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eula Smith; siblings, Ruth Smith, Gloria, Hubert Smith, Otis Smith, and Bill Smith; spouse of 49 years, Robert D. Flemister; and their son, Phillip J. Flemister; in-laws, Leroy Flemister and Bernice Flemister Baker. She leaves behind her sister, Elaine McReynolds of Michigan; children, Jacqueline Sorrell, Elaine Bray, Donna (Vodie) Debardeleben of Texas, Christopher Flemister, Roberta Flemister, and Ruth Flemister. She has eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren; close friends are Eleanor Reeves, Marie Robinson, Maxine Lawrence, and Arletha Bradford. Arrangements will be announced later by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
