Norman Ponder's Obituary
Norman Ponder was born January 9, 1963 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the Union of John William Ponder, Jr. and Lurlene Lloyd Ponder. Norman grew up in the Alton Park community and was loved by so many friends and relatives. He graduated from Kirkman Technical High School, class of 1981, where he excelled in sheet metal vocational class. Norman represented Kirkman three years in the State VICA competition for sheet metal. He joined the Air Force in 1982 to 1986, Norman was employed at Northrop Grumman from 1986 to 1997, during his employment he worked on the B-2 Stealth Bomber. Norman was also employed at Komatsu Dresser and ADM in Chattanooga. Among those that preceded him in death includes his father, John William Ponder, Jr., mother, Lurlene Lloyd Ponder; brother, John William Ponder, III, Vernon L. Ponder; sisters, Angela D. Ponder, and Debra Ponder-Edwards; grandmothers, Ida B. Winston and Dollie Lloyd; uncles, Charles (Thelma) Winston, James (Florenza) Edward Ponder, Robert Lloyd, and William Lloyd; aunt, Mary Lloyd; cousins, Paul Winston and Olivia Winston, a host of other cousins, nephews, nieces, and other relatives. On February 7, 2025, Norman passed away at the age of 62, at his residence. Cherishing his memories include Felicia Ponder of 13 years of marriage; sons, Raynal Ponder, and Darion Ponder; grandchildren, Tahlaya Ponder, Shai Ponder, Tarrell Raynal Ponder, Aleena Ponder; brothers, Larry Ponder and Richard Ponder; nephews, Sean Ponder, Jeremy Ponder, Vernon Ponder, Myron Johnson, Lloyd Vernon Ponder, Calvin Bolden, Gerald Edwards; nieces, Toya Ponder, Cydney Ponder, Ashleigh Ponder, Erica Edwards LaFaye, Nicole Chimere Mooring, Latrece Jones, and Shamica Jones; a host of other relatives and friends. He will lie-in-state on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel with Pastor Lebron Hawkins as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
