Nettie George Washington Morgan's Obituary
Nettie George Washington Morgan was born on August 26, 1937, in Waterproof, Louisianna to George and Nettie Williams Washington. She was the second child born to the family. Nettie’s personality and hobbies developed early. During her time at Booker T. Washington High School, she was a member of the thespian club, performing in several high school productions. She learned to sew in her home economics class and shared that talent with her daughter and granddaughter. Nettie served as the parliamentarian for her senior class and graduated in 1955. She went on to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. While working in Shreveport, LA, at Shumpert Hospital, she met Andrew C. (AC) Morgan, who was home on military leave. After a short courtship, she returned with him to Fort Sill, OK, and on August 21, 1958, they were married. Together they had four children—Wendell, Joyce, Felicia and Carlton. They lived the enlisted life, stationed in Bad Kreuznach, Germany and Fort Rucker, Alabama, before receiving orders to Fort Benning, GA. Nettie retired from the Army and Airforce Exchange Service (AAFES) on November 1, 1994. She then retired after 10 years with Steinmart. She loved gardening, traveling with her sister and family, and precious time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a former Vice President of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus. Mrs. Nettie was an avid bowler, winning multiple awards in the Columbus Bowling League with the “High-Lo Peaches” and the Chattanooga Area Bowling Association. She lived a life filled with service towards others. She was a faithful and devout member and stewardess at St. James CME Church in Columbus, GA. When she relocated to Chattanooga, TN, she joined St. Mary’s CME Church and quickly got active there as well as a member of the Stewardess Board and a teacher and leader for Sunday School. Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, AC; her daughter, Felicia; and beloved pets, Doris and Peaches. She rejoins her mother, father, and brother, Reaf “Son” (Lek) in heaven. She is survived by her siblings, Michael (Ethel), Elaine, Sophia, and Nellie Huggins; her children, Wendell (Gail), Joyce (Richard), and Carlton (Billie); her grandchildren, Laquesha (Allen), Tory, Tarus (Ashleigh), Faith, Lance, Joy, Robert, Jordan, Morgan, Richard, III, Tracy, and Camron; great-grandchildren, Dominique, Tiombe, Xavier, David, Felicia, Elijah, Peyton, Dahx, Phiv, Gianna, and Ava; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
