Nada Joanne Smith's Obituary
Ms. Nada Joanne Whitaker-Smith was born on Friday, July 21, 1950, in Griffin, Georgia, to the late Alfred Whitaker and Carrie Lindsey-Whitaker. She accepted Christ at an early age and had a deep and abiding love for the Lord. She graduated with honors from Giffin High School in 1968 and was later accepted into Spelman College.
Ms. Smith later relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she was employed by the United States Postal Service, from which she retired. She was a faithful member of Greater Tucker Baptist Church, where she especially enjoyed singing in the choir. In her leisure time, Ms. Smith enjoyed watching her favorite game shows and spending quality time with her family. She had a favorite saying which was “You know it” and “all the time”.
She was preceded in death by her one brother, Louis Whitaker; two sons, Aaron Smith and Travis Smith; one sister Brenda White. She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters: Sonja Houllier of Durham, North Carolina, Sabrina Smith and Traci Smith of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one sister, Geraldine Gates; two brothers, Larry Whitaker of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Ira Whitaker of Conyers, Georgia; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. She will lie-in-state on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 12 noon at Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Hathaway as the eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Garden, East.
