Mollie Mae Dean's Obituary
Mrs. Mollie Mae Stone Dean, 94, of Chattanooga, departed this life on Sunday, June 30, 2024. She passed peacefully at NHC Healthcare of Chattanooga. Mollie was born in Madison County, Alabama on September 23, 1929. She was the second child of the late Water Lee Stone and Georgia Ann Kelly Stone. She was united in marriage to Elige M. Dean for 54 devoted years. Their union was blessed with four children. She worked as a domestic worker for a few years. She only worked for families which respected her and her dedication to their family. Most of her life’s work was as a homemaker who faithfully, tirelessly, responsibly, protectively and lovingly nurtured her children and managed her home life. She was a committed and loving wife and mother. Mollie joined the Greater Friendship Primitive Baptist Church under the pastorate of A.M. Sylar. She continued her devotion to her church family and service to God under the pastorate of James Penney and subsequent pastors. She served on the Senior Usher Board and the A. M. Sylar Choir until her health declined. Mollie and her family lived in the Avondale community of East Chattanooga for over sixty years. Throughout these years she was known to be a substantial part of the neighborhood and a reliable neighbor. She was affectionately greeted by many as Mama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elige Milton Dean; a son, Milton Dean; her parents, Water Lee Stone and Georgia Ann Kelly Stone; siblings, Olivia Stone Walker, Ira Mae Stone Haygood, and Walter Haze Stone; children-in-law, Diane Parks Dean and Lee Derrick; parents-in-law, Ed and Carrie Dean; siblings-in-law, Harrison Dean and Eddie Mae Dean Kelly. Those she leaves to cherish her memories include her children, Ed Lee Dean, Melvin B. (Chavela M.) Dean, Peggy J. Dean Derrick; grandchildren, Tommy (Tammy) L. Dean, Chavela N. Dean, Jonathan B. Dean, Tyrone (Tamika) Parks; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. Family visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 12:00 noon at which time the family will receive friends at Taylor Funeral Home. Following, Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Lakeside Memory Gardens, East with Words of Comfort from Pastor Terryl James of Washington Hills UMC Church. Immediately following is the repast at Cilla’s Event Hall (Herman’s Soul Food Restaurant, 3821 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37411).
