Minnie L. Witcher's Obituary
Minnie Lee Gary Witcher, known by “Moochie”, “Mama Witcher”, and “Minnie Mom”, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at her residence. She was born October 26, 1933, to Thomas S. Gary and Essie Mae Gary. She was a 1951 graduate of Howard High School. Minnie was a nanny for Amos Trotter of Trotter Pontiac Company for many years. She later began to work as a nanny for Dr. William Tip Kelley, DDS. Minnie broadened her horizon through the Orange Grove Center of Chattanooga as a teacher and mother to her students. Minnie was a faithful member of East Third Street Church of Christ, where she was on the Kitchen Culinary Team. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Sandra Lynette Dallas and Kimberly Darlene Starks; sisters, Mary Pearl Newby, Irene Dave, Elizabeth Bonds, Oda Mae Woods, Thelma Gary, and Mizora Woods; niece, Iris Careathers; nephew, Ben Anderson; brothers, Thomas Gary and Alfonzo Gary. Survivors include her daughter, Edith Joyce Wadley; grandchildren, Ricardo “Utique” (Magdeline) Ware, Desman “Danté Ware, Sr. (Chiemeka Jones), Chirmére Monique Hardaway, and Bundles Elité Wadley; great-grandchildren, Kellel Nicole Ware, Desman Dante Ware, Jr., Jarius Ware, Micah Ware, Rease Harris, Ethan Billingsley, Wilson Simervil, and Olivia Simervil; sister, Elnora Kirby of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family; many friends, “besties” Onnie Channel, Gertrude Bailey; and a host of other friends, neighbors, caregivers, and loved ones. Minnie will lie-in-state on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in the chapel with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
