Michael Sims' Obituary
Michael Sims, 70 of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at his residence. He was born January 11, 1954, in Chattanooga to McKinley W. Sims, Sr. and Lillie R. Sims. Michael joined New Monumental Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. He participated in the Gospel Orchestra and was gifted to play multiple instruments. Michael was a 1972 graduate of Riverside High School. His talent in music expanded into the Riverside Marching 100, where he was first trumpet and section leader and a member of The Swing Band. He received his Associate degree as a Machinist from Chattanooga State College. Michael served in the United States Army and was a member of the U.S. Army Band. He received an honorable discharge at the end of his service time. Michael was employed by the City of Chattanooga. Michael enjoyed fishing and listening daily to Pastor Tony Evans broadcast. He was known to many as "The Grill Man." Not only did he enjoy making grills, but he enjoyed grilling for his family and friends. Michael will be remembered for his many talents, kind spirit, wise advice, and his clever wit. He was devoted to his family. Michael was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle P. Sims; wife, Donna Marie Sims; and father, McKinley W. Sims, Sr. Michael leaves to cherish his precious memories: Rosie Gibson; son, Michael A. Sims; mother, Lillie R. Sims; sister, Sheral Sims (Van) Foster; brother, McKinley (Shelia) Sims, Jr., his devoted sister and caregiver for several years Anita Sims; dear friend, Allen Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Michael will lie-in-state on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel with Pastor Kenneth Scaife as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
