Mattie Clopton's Obituary
Mattie Lee Clopton, affectionately known as “The Fox”, 88, of Chattanooga, ascended to be with the Lord our Savior on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in a local hospital. She was born into the Clopton Legacy on December 29, 1935 in Courtland, Alabama to Napolean Clopton, Jr. and Mary Magaline McGuire Clopton. She graduated from Howard High School and was a member of Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, where she served for many decades. She enjoyed her career as a hostess at the Radisson Read House and the Chattanooga Marriott where she brought her contagious smile and laughter for over 40 years. Mattie was also a caring landlord who helped many people in her community.
Mattie loved to travel and visited over 60 cities in the US and abroad. She was an amazing person who brought happiness and laughter to everyone she met. Most of all she loved God and her family who she poured into each and every day. She was an amazing Mother and grandmother and will forever be adored and remembered by her children, family and friends.
Mattie was preceded in death by her father, Napolean Clopton, Jr.; mother, Mary Magaline McGuire Clopton; brothers, Napolean Clopton, III, James Clopton, Charles Clopton, Sr., Aaron Clopton, Mark Clopton, Green “Old Folk” Clopton, Tommy Clopton, Frankie Clopton, and Benjamin Clopton; sisters, Rosie Lee Davis, Evangeline Mosley, Lillie Kate Gaimary, Chinester Blanton, Ora Louise Moore, and Mary Lee Grandison; special nephews, Lovell Mosley and Joseph Bright.
Surviving siblings include her brother, Jesse Clopton of Akron, OH; and sister, Emma Dell Bright of Chattanooga, TN. She also leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, her loving son, Larrye Bernard Clopton; devoted daughter-in-love, Lillie Clopton; grandchildren, Lynetta (Michael) Penn and Lyneisa (Jeremy) Sparks; great-grandchildren, Lhadijah Sanders, Demetria Grier, Khiya Clopton, Austin Mayweather, Micah Penn, Issac Penn, Giselle Sparks, Jade Sparks, and Jabari Sparks; great-great-grandchildren, Zuri Bridges, Kazi Bridges, and Khi’an Parrott; a multitude of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends; caring friend and travel partner, Angela McKibben. Special thanks to Dr Bell and Erlanger SICU for the special care and handling of our Angel in her final days.
Mattie will lie-in-state on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel with Pastor Kevin Adams as the Eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
