Mary L. Black's Obituary
Mary L. Black, 96, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, in the Hospice Care Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 9, 1927, in Alabama to the late Brucie McKenzie and Nathaniel Stroud. She was a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended New Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member in the Missionary Society, The Matrons, and Virtuous Women. She took great pride in her employment with Chattanooga Hamilton County Foster Grandparent. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Black Sr.; her son, Walter Black Jr.; her 5 sisters and her 4 brothers. Survivors include four children, Jacquelyn (Ervin) Bonner, Sandra Henderson, Larry (Marjorie) Black, and Tony (Delois) Black; grandchildren, Richard, Patrick, Naketa, Tony Jr., Candice, Ervin III, Omar, Samantha, Terrance, Marcus, Cornelius, Jerome, and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; special friends Barbara Jackson, Calvin Colvin, Ericka Colvin, Cody Colvin, and other friends. She will always be remembered as a Christian Woman, Loving Mother, and Grandmother. Mary will lie-in-state on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, January 12, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Terrance Hannah as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
