Marvella Cox's Obituary
Marvella Jones Cox, 78, of Chattanooga, made her transition into the sacred arms of her Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her residence. She was born November 28, 1946, to the late William Jones and Mae Hardy Jones.
Marvella was a born-again Christian who honored the Lord in her daily walk. She confessed Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age. She was a faithful member of Orchard Knob Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mass Choir, the Sunday School and the Women’s Ministry for many years. She remained an active and faithful member until her health prevented regular attendance. Marvella enjoyed singing, attending religious concerts, traveling, and basketball. She was a longtime member of the City-Wide Choir under the direction of James Elder, Divine Praise, Women of Worship, and Unity Praise Ministry. She regularly shared her voice with Second Baptist and Tucker Baptist mass choirs. She was a dedicated and supportive worker, always willing to give.
Marvella retired from AT&T in 2005. She enjoyed traveling to the Bahamas and preparing meals for Coach McGary and “Peanut” her son. They always craved her collard greens, mac’n cheese, jello mousse, ham, and cornbread.
Marvella was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother (who raised her), Clara Jones; and grandson, Vandaryl Rivers.
Precious memories remain with her son, Harri (Rosland) Cox, Jr.; fiancé, Walter McGary; granddaughter, DaMeka Cox; Harri’s father-in-law, Ransom Evans; stepdaughters, Annyelle Evans and Roxane Evans Allen; and the grandchildren; special group of friends, Janet Houston, John Jackson, Henrietta, Blondell, Sheila, Joyce Gee, Jasmine and Myrtle; a host of special and supportive vocalists, other relatives, and great friends.
Marvella will lie-in-state on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
