Martin L. Green Jr.'s Obituary
With grace and quiet strength, Martin L. Green, Jr. departed this life on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the remarkable age of 92. Born to Martin L. Green, Sr. and Mable Brown, Martin lived a life marked by service, integrity, and devotion to family. He was the oldest of 13 children. A proud graduate of Christopher Newport University, Martin earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force. Over the course of more than 20 years, he built a distinguished military career before retiring with the respect of his peers and the gratitude of a nation. Following his military service, Martin explored various professional paths before embracing entrepreneurship. His work ethic and leadership were matched only by his zest for life. He found joy in golfing, fishing, poker, and tennis—pastimes that reflected his love of camaraderie and competition. He was also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Psi International Business Fraternity, Iota Pi Chapter, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and shared his passion for business and mentorship. Martin’s greatest treasure was his beloved wife of 48 years, Phyllis Atkins Green, whom he lovingly called the joy of his life. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Vanessa Green, and his other children, Anthony C. Green Rhodes, Aletta C. Green Rhodes, Vincent T. Green and Carla Green. Martin cherished his siblings, brothers: Marshal Greene, Milton Green, Murphy Green, Maurice Green, and John Brown and his sisters: Mattie Fowlkes, Mary Baker, Maude Hambright, and Edith Kight. They all held a special place in his heart, as did his many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin L. Green, Sr., and Mable Jones Green Brown, whose legacy of strength and compassion he carried forward. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Major L. Green and Marvin L. Green; sister: Mable L. Green Baker. Stepfather: Enos Brown. Aunt: Pearl Jones Hardin. Uncle: Edward Hardin.
Martin’s life was a testament to resilience, generosity, and quiet wisdom. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
