Martha Jones' Obituary
Martha Jones, 74, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 in her residence. She graduated from Howard High School, Class of 1967, before continuing her education at Zion College. She attended New Home Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mass choir and the Sr. Saints Missionary and Culinary Committee. Martha was preceded in death by her father, John D. Bowles; mother, Emma Mae Petty; stepfather, Bernard Petty; maternal grandparents, Callie Smith Fitch and Myrtha Smith; paternal grandparents, Peter and Nettie Bowles. Survivors include her son, Mark (Kizzy) Jones, of Chattanooga; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Irvin Smith and Tracy (Rae Ann) Petty, both of Chattanooga; sisters, Nettie Wright, Brenda Bowles, and Darlene Shackelford, all of Chattanooga; uncle, Jerome Smith, of Buffalo, NY. Martha will lie-in-state on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Greater New Home Missionary Baptist Church, 2809 13th Avenue. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Elder G.M. Spotts as eulogist.
