Marion Elizabeth Mathis' Obituary
Marion Elizabeth Mathis, 88, departed this life into eternal life, on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 6:53 p.m. (Eastern Time). Marion received Christ as her Lord & Savior and she is now rejoicing with our Abba Father (Daddy)! She was born August 2, 1936, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a teenager, Marion was one of the lead singers in her church choir. She was also a member of the Chattanooga Wonders, and she loved displaying her musical talent. Marion attended the Madam CJ Walker Beauty School and later became a licensed cosmetologist, building the confidence of her clients through her creativity of styling their hair. She also attended Chattanooga State Community College, where she received her Associates Degree in Computer Science. Marion worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 21 years and retired as a Customer Service Supervisor. Marion’s favorite sayings were, “I want to live life in peace, not in pieces!” and, “Jesus is near and Jesus will never leave us.” Marion was an intellectual who could speak on many topics. She was a trailblazer beyond her time. Marion loved to travel, and she traveled extensively with our military father. She had a passion for decorating, she was an organizer, and most importantly, she loved her family. Marion was preceded in death by her son, Alvin Lebron McGlocklin; parents, Scott E. Jones, Sr., and Mary L. Jones; sisters, Scottalene Jones and Maxine L. Orr (Jones); brothers, Oscar E. Jones and Scott E. Jones, Jr.; and grandson Victor D. Carr. She is survived by her two daughters and son: eldest daughter, Dr. Rita A. Carr (McGlocklin), of Chattanooga, TN, youngest daughter, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Janice A. Arrowsmith (McGlocklin), and youngest son, Michael E. McGlocklin, both of Birmingham, AL; a loving granddaughter-in-law, Rena Carr, of Cartersville, GA; one granddaughter, Tondra E. Hart (Dean), of Ringgold, GA; three grandsons, Vincent L. Carr, of Carterville, Michael E. Emory, Jr., of Nashville, TN, and Mark J. Arrowsmith, Jr., of Austin, TX; nine great-grandchildren, Meazi L. Hart, Adrian B. Hart, Jr., Brock A. Hart, and Bryce E. Hart, all of Ringgold, GA, and Akiera E. Carr, Aysia M. Carr, Alanna M. Carr, Vincent L. Carr, Jr., and Avianna G. Carr, all of Cartersville; one great-great-grandson, Jaxson L. Sandridge, of Ringgold; sisters, Mary A. Williams (Jones), of LaFayette, GA, Patricia M. Murray (Jones), DelRay Beach, of Florida, Hazel L. Henderson, of Chattanooga, Rosa L. Mitchell (Jones), of Rockspring, GA, and Glenda A. Hinton, of Chattanooga; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. We rejoice though her journey of passing was one of great sickness and pain; she now rejoices with those who have gone before her, and we rejoice as we know we will surely see our precious mother again according to John 3:16. The family would like to thank everyone for the many kind words and selfless love shown during this time of sorrow. Your prayers, telephone calls and your loving acts of kindness are deeply appreciated. May God bless and keep each of you. A family Memorial Service will be Friday, April 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Silver Crest Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Petersen as the Eulogist. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
