Marilyn Jones' Obituary
Marilyn Lucinda “Lucy” Jones, 64, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Hospice Care Center. She attended Howard High School, where she was in the “Marching 100” Band. She graduated in the class of 1979.
Marilyn was a member of Greater Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Choir, was on the Youth Staff, and was a part of the S.H.E. Ministry. She was formerly employed by Shaw Industries.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Carter, Sr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tommy (Diane) Jones; bonus daughter, Shanika Collins; and brother-in-law, Aaron Jones.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Ronald A. Jones; son, Corey L. Jones; daughters, Raven (Tyrance) Tory and Jenika Jones (Mark Lewis), all of Chattanooga; bonus son, Mathanell (Fallen) Woods; bonus daughter, Patrice Jones; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; mother, Shirley Ann Carter; bonus mother, Willie Eva Carter; brothers, Nathaniel Carter, Jr., all of Chattanooga, and Gary Carter of New York; sisters, Corine (William) Murphy, Althea (Kenneth) Worthen, both of Chattanooga, and Elizabeth (Donnie) Carroll of Atlanta, GA; aunts, Julia A. Pettyjohn of Americus, GA, Ernestine Terrell, Hazel Benford, both of Chattanooga, and Bobbi Nell Matthews of Killeen, TX; uncles, Rufus (Pearl) Jones and Jesse Jones, both of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Yulandra Jones; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; special friends, Angela King, Donna Gant, Barbara Bates, Nicole Kinamore, Bernice Brown, and many other friends.
Marilyn will lie-in-state on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel with Elder Michael Lacy as the Eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
