Margaret Butts' Obituary
Margaret Edna Butts was born on December 14, 1930, to Zach and Gertrude Peavy Butts, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. On January 15, 2025, she responded to the call from her heavenly father. In her 94 years, Margaret meant so much to so many, like her daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Nana, foster-mother, aunt, cousins, friends, mentor, a source of encouragement and most of all, "A Woman of God". She was educated in the Chattanooga School system and was a proud member of Howard High School graduating class of 1949. She was a faithful and beloved member of New Enon Baptist Church. She was employed for several years as a Teacher's Assistant with the Chattanooga City School System and later retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph D. Brown, Jr., son, Charles Anthony Butts, granddaughter, Margaret E. Butts, II, grandson, Tyrone Butts and 18 of her 19 siblings. She leaves to cherish her memories, sons, V. Lebron Butts and Robert L. Butts, Sr. both of Chattanooga; daughters, Charlotte Renee Butts and Cynthia (Perry, Sr.) Crawford of Chattanooga; Goddaughter, Sharron Sims McClarty of Chattanooga; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Edell Butts of Valrico, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family of the heart. She will lie-in-state on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. on January 31, 2025, in the chapel. Her funeral will be on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 12 noon at Taylor Funeral Home with Reverend Anthony Bullard as the eulogist. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
