Malinda Blakely's Obituary
Malinda Kirk Blakely, affectionately known as “Dodie,” transitioned to celestial peace on July 29, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born on May 20, 1930, in Waverly, Alabama to the union of Robert Kirk, Sr. and Jimmie Lee Moody Kirk, who were blessed with 12 children. She was educated at High Pines School, located in Waverly. Malinda was married to Euriah Blakely and had 3 sons, George Donnis Floyd, Roger and Argie Kirk. She moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee as a young adult with her parents and children. She found employment at Hamilton County Nursing Home.
Malinda loved her life and the privilege of knowing and working with compassionate people. Her unwavering faith led her to be a dedicated member of St. James A.M.E. Church. During her time at St. James prior to her health challenges, she was an active member of the Church Missionary Society, where she served in roles as Head Stewardess, and later as Resident. She was also a member of the hospitality committee, where she actively participated in helping prepare and serve meals during church functions. She further shared her spirit of service by giving and generous nature through membership on the Shepherd Community Council.
Malinda was preceded in death by her husband, Euriah Blakely; parents, Robert Kirk, Sr. and Jimmie Lee Moody Kirk; 2 sons, George D. Floyd and Roger Kirk; all of her 11 siblings, of which she had 3 brothers and 8 sisters. She leaves to cherish her life her son, Argie Kirk; a very big family of nieces and nephews and other relatives; one sister-in-law, Annie (John) Kirk; and lots of friends.
Malinda will lie-in-state on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Archie Griffin as the Officiant and Rev. Dr. Sheila Harris as Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 12:30 p.m.
