Mae Delois Nelson's Obituary
Evangelist Mae Delois Nelson, 76, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on January 25, 2025. She was born on November 14, 1948, to the late Lee Wesley Nelson Sr. and Letha Foster Nelson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lee Wesley Nelson Jr. and Thomas Haven Nelson Sr.
A proud graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1967, Evangelist Nelson dedicated her life to service, both to her country and her faith. She retired after 34 years of distinguished service with the U.S. Army. She furthered her education at McKenzie College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, and received an Associate of Science degree in Human Resources from Chattanooga State Technical College.
Evangelist Nelson was a devoted servant of the Lord, faithfully serving under the late Pastor Nathanial Carter at Greater Faith Temple. She was an active member of the National Baptist Association, The Divine Daughters, and various other community organizations, always striving to uplift those around her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Vincent (Crystal) Nelson of Watertown, NY, and Leshina (Dwayne) Spearman of Woodstock, GA; her loving siblings: Eric Nelson of Chattanooga, TN, Linda (Doyle) Hunter of Chattanooga, TN, Delola (Emmett) Osburn of Riverdale, GA, and Darilyn Reel of Chattanooga, TN; her cherished grandchildren: Ariel (Jermaine) Harris, Cortney Nelson, Jarian Nelson, William Smith IV, Vincent Nelson Jr., Shaieisha (Durante) Upshaw, and Cheyanne (Josh) McArdell; 21 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Evangelist Nelson’s legacy of faith, service, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Evangelist Nelson will lie-in-state on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral will be on Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Michael Lacy as Eulogist. Burial on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
