Lugertha " Mama Lou" Morris' Obituary
Lugertha “Mama Lou” Morris, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, in a local hospital. She was a former member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, and a current member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. Lugertha was preceded in death by her husband, Otis L. Morris; and parents, Calvin and Margaret Byrd. Survivors include her daughters, Wilma (Andrẻ) Gordon and Shelia Earvin, both of Chattanooga; step-son, Anthony Morris; grandchildren, Kelvin (Vanisa) Byrd, Mykal (Dennis) Fraser, Derek Bush, Ronika Bush, Brandi (Judge) Collier, Peter (L.Celeste) Peter, Itiat (Kimberly) Peter, and Marie (Roderick) Bowman; brother, Rilous (Zola) Byrd, of Newark, OH; 1 niece, 2 nephews; lifelong friends, Louise Tuggle and Phadiona Colson, and a host of other relatives, and friends. She lie-in-state on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be Friday, February 11, 2022, at 12:00 noon at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home with Pastor Clifford Jones will serve as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the following: Novant Health Cancer Institute for the Buddy Kemp Support Center, 242 South Colonial Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28207 or Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for the Coleman W. Kerry Scholarship Fund, 3400 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.
