Loyett Owens' Obituary
Loyett Owens, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, in a local hospital surrounded by family and friends. She was born on August 11, 1946, in La Grange, Georgia to the late Mildred Broom and the late Jesse Ben Person.
Loyett attended Georgia Public Schools and graduated from Mary Johnson High School. She worked as most typical teenagers in varied areas. After attaining her nursing degree, she established a lifelong career where she worked over forty years as an RN at Baroness Erlanger Hospital. She was a born-again Christian. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Greater Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church. She served diligently on the Nursing Ministry, loved her church, and above all she knew and loved God. She had strong faith and constantly praised God regardless of the outcome of any situation. She always exclaimed, “God is in control”. She loved her entire family; she would do whatever she could to assist anyone in need. She had a loving heart; a calm and pleasant demeanor and she would encourage her family to seek and allow God to be a strong part of their lives. She would teach her grand kids and great-grand kids bible scriptures, setting the foundation for religious and spiritual knowledge. She had a personal relationship with the Lord.
She was active in the Glenwood Neighborhood Association. Due to her medical knowledge, many would solicit her advice regarding their health or a person they knew confronted with medical related issues. When Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity had special events, she was a constant supporter of their endeavors. God allowed her to live out her passion to aid, encourage and assist those in need. She understood God’s will for our entrance and exit in life.
Loyett was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gary Ann Broom, Pat Broom, and Linda Bibbins; brothers, Larry Person and Wayne Broom. She leaves to cherish memories a loving daughter and caregiver, Katrena Davis; granddaughter, Ashlei Ammons; grandson, Ashton Ammons; great-grandchildren, Princeton, Aurieon, and Naychur, all of Chattanooga, TN; lifelong partner, Graydell Price; sister, Lisa (Alfred, Sr.) Boykins, of Fayetteville, GA; godson, Brillard Kelley; nephews, Shawn Owens, Reginald Owens, Antwon Broom, Fitzgerald Bibbins, Brandon (Tess) Boykin, Alfred (Julie) Boykin, Jr., Travis Broom, and Anthony Broom; nieces, Therrodesha Byars and Tanyell Cochran; special cousins, Billy Owens, Bobbi Owens, Theresa Young, Delores Readus (Reginald) Elder, and Daphine (Tarel) McClurkin.
